About MeI'm an engineer and researcher. Or... was. My PhD was on breaking fingerprint sensors, four years of asking how easy it is to fool biometric systems (easier than anyone wanted to admit). Now I spend most of my time on GoiGroup, my family's project on pain neuroscience. I also wrote about using an iPad through an engineering degree, back when no-one knew what an iPad was. A few professors (in engineering!!) asked me what that thing was when I pulled it up in class to take notes. |

My father spent decades as a neurologist watching patients with pain that medicine couldn't explain, migraines, fibromyalgia, back pain that outlived any injury. His conclusion: chronic pain isn't damage the body is reporting. It's something the nervous system has learned. Which means it can unlearn it. GoiGroup is built on that idea, teaching people about their own nervous system so they can stop being afraid of their body. It's an unusual family project. It works.
Research
My PhD at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid was on fingerprint presentation attacks, the science of how easy it is to fool a biometric sensor with a fake finger. The answer was more unsettling than the industry liked. The work contributed to ISO/IEC 30107, the international standard for biometric security.

Fun fact: this is roughly what my PhD was about. Presentation attacks — fake fingers made of gelatin, silicone, latex, play-doh — and whether sensors can tell. The work contributed to ISO/IEC 30107.
